The Doctrine of Angels

The Doctrine of Angels

God’s Spiritual, Sinless Beings

We believe that God created an innumerable company of spiritual, sinless beings known as angels; that some remained faithful and are before the throne of God to bring Him unending worship; and that they have sometimes worked as God’s agents to pronounce His work and minister to believers.

Genesis 3:22-24  |  Isaiah 6:1-3  |  Daniel 12:1  |  Matthew 4:11  |  Matthew 13:39  |  Luke 1:13, 28-37  |  Luke 2:9-15  |  Luke 15:10, 22-43  |  Acts 27:23-24  |  Hebrews 1:14  |  Revelation 7:11-12

We believe that one angel, “Lucifer, the highest in rank”, sinned through pride and became Satan, and that a great number of angels followed him in his moral fall, some of whom became demons and are active as his agents in tempting believers and corrupting mankind, while others who fell are “reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day”. We believe that Satan is the originator of sin, and rules as the “god of this world”, engaged in warfare against God and the people of God. Sin entered the world through Satan’s corruption of man, having led Adam and Eve into proud rebellion and sin, subjecting all mankind to the curse of sin.

Genesis 3:1-19  |  Isaiah 14:12-15  |  Ezekiel 28:11-19  |  Romans 5:12-14  |  2 Corinthians 4:3-4  |  2 Corinthians 11:13-15  |  Ephesians 6:10-12  |  2 Thessalonians 2:4  |  1 Timothy 4:1-3  |  2 Peter 2:4    |   Jude 6

We believe that Satan was judged forever at the cross, and that at the Second Coming, he will be bound and cast into the abyss for a thousand years, after which he will be released for a time, and finally “cast into the lake of fire” where he “will be tormented” forever.

Colossians 2:15  |  Revelation 20:1-3,10
