Between the Last Supper and the cross, Jesus endured an unimaginable amount of torture. The physical pain was exacerbated by the contempt and ridicule of His creation as they abused Him. But everything that happened provided pictures of ultimate victory, including the Crown of Thorns. The virus affecting our world has spikes that resemble a crown, and it’s piercing damage infects and can cause death, just like sin does. The thorns on Jesus’ crown represent the pain and futility of sin. But by being pierced for us, He provides eternal victory…and the cross offers a powerful picture of how He heals us.
